Above 4 mm, the insert starts feeling overbuilt and pushes packaging weight up.

Matte-finish surface, not gloss

Gloss finish shows fingerprints under fulfillment-center handling — by the time the package reaches the recipient, fingerprints are visible. Matte finish doesn't fingerprint.
